Day 1 – Kigali Serena Hotel

Begin your journey in Kigali. On an enchanting boulevard in the heart of Kigali, in a secure location just a five-minute walk from the CBD, lies Kigali Serena Hotel. A distinctively rich blend of Rwandan heritage, art and culture with contemporary 5-star comfort.

Explore the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, or contemporary art galleries before a restful evening.

Days 2–4 – Singita Kwitonda Lodge
Volcanoes National Park

Settle into three nights at Singita Kwitonda, where floor-to-ceiling views of the volcanoes frame your time. Trek mountain gorillas, enjoy guided nature walks, and meet local community leaders.

Stay: 3 nights – Suite
Activities: Gorilla trekking (multiple opportunities), cultural immersion, birding, guided forest walks, golden monkey hike                         

Days 5–6 – Wilderness Bisate Lodge
Volcanoes National Park

Move to Bisate Lodge for another three nights, with its iconic forest villas and strong conservation ethos. With further gorilla treks, optional golden monkey encounters, and storytelling evenings, Bisate creates space for both connection and reflection.

Stay: 3 nights – Forest Villa

Activities: Gorilla trekking, golden monkey encounters, reforestation, wellness

Day 8 – Departure

Final transfer back to Kigali International Airport for onward travel.

Rwanda Gorilla Trekking FAQ

How difficult is gorilla trekking in Rwanda?
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park can take between 2 and 6 hours, depending on where the gorilla family is located. Trails can be steep, muddy, and at altitude, but porters are available to assist. Moderate fitness is recommended.

When is the best time to visit Rwanda for gorilla trekking?
Rwanda is a year-round destination, but the dry seasons (June–September and December–February)offer the best trekking conditions. The wet seasons bring lush landscapes and fewer crowds.

How much is a gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda?
A gorilla trekking permit currently costs USD 1,500 per person, per trek(subject to change by Rwanda Development Board). Permits are included in The Myers Portfolio itineraries.

How many gorilla treks are included in your itineraries?

The 5-night journey includes two gorilla treks.

The 7-night journey includes up to four gorilla treks.

Is gorilla trekking safe?
Yes. Treks are guided by expert rangers and trackers who follow strict protocols to ensure both guest safety and gorilla protection. A respectful 10-metre distance is maintained.

Can I combine gorilla trekking with other Rwanda destinations?
Absolutely. Many travellers pair gorilla trekking with Akagera National Parkfor a savannah safari, or Nyungwe Forestfor chimpanzee tracking.

What should I pack for a gorilla trek?
Bring awell worn-in pair of waterproof hiking boots(so you’re not walking them in for the first time on your trek), long trousers, gloves, a lightweight rain jacket, and layered clothing. At Singita Kwitonda and Wilderness Bisate, equipment such as gaiters, walking sticks, and raincoats is provided for guests.

Are children allowed to trek gorillas?
The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is 15 years old.
